Hillbilly Vampire (serial fiction)

REVIEWED BY: Marguerite Zelle

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES, with reservations

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: Hillbilly Vampire, by Tonto Fielding

WEB ADDRESS: http://hillbillyvampire.blogspot.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: By the author of "The Hillbilly Vampire Chronicles" and "The Hillbilly Vampire Chronicles 2: The Peasnap Uprising," Hillbilly Vampire offers a twisted and screwball view of the hillbilly impropriety of SE Ohio. It also offers a serial version of book 2.

MY REVIEW: Well, truth to tell vampires as a genre have never interested me. And hillbilly vampires? But for those individuals who like vampires, and like hillbillies, I think this will be a fun blog. With a 14-day free trial period, why not check it out. And if you like it, the ebook is also available.

Seems to be updated once a week on average.

Tonto Fielding has discovered through previously classified documents, the cover-up of the Montana National guard incident of 1958. Colonel Bull “Ironside” Beets deployed his unit to set up a security perimeter around the Sacajawea Memorial Picnic Area near Dillon, after a Bigfoot sighting by several children attending a birthday party. His strategy was to appear to be seizing and exploiting the initiative-- and then to feign a withdrawal in order to draw the reclusive creature out. A machine gun nest would then demonstrate an over powering force. Ralph Pudd, who had been hired as a clown for the birthday party was riddled with over two thousand bullet holes when he emerged from behind a clump of bushes where he had been relieving himself.

O-S-S-I-A (serial fiction / science fantasy)

REVIEWED BY: Marguerite Zelle

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: O-S-S-I-A, by Kayleigh Ayn Bohémier

WEB ADDRESS: http://ossia.writingkaye.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: In 1918 Standard Count, the lead singer of Tapestry, Eràsis, jumped to her death at the Great Falls. One day later, hackers destroyed most biographical data. All that remains is her music, along with several archived interviews.

Amkzí, a canyon woman claiming to be Eràsis, synthesized the remaining information. Her narrative expands the well-known biographical facts into a story of family intrigue and political assassination that climaxed that summer, along with the permanent depression medication that drove Eràsis to an early death.

MY REVIEW: Reading this blog reminded me of J.R.R. Tolkien's work, as well as others of course - a created world with a new language that you have to learn if you are to enjoy it to its fullest.

Unfortunately, the Kindle does not archive the complete blog. So to get the full effect, you need to visit the blog webpage itself, read it there unti you are caught up, and then continue reading via the blog, which is delivered to your Kindle every Tuesday.

A few paragraphs from pg 38 of folio 2
Folio Two, Page Thirty-Eight (svegra mos bietkron tal-kot)
When we came down from the high several hours later, my fingers were raw from playing. Sukua braced his own wrists with wooden splints.

“Where did you learn to play like that?” I looked up at him from where I sat, thinking about how badly I needed to soak my hands in ice water. “I thought I was the only one.”

“There isn’t much to do in this house,” he muttered. “Your kind out there is just jealous of us because we have the Sanctuary.”

I looked down and tried to hide the shame in my face. For the past few hours, I had not considered the delicate position I found myself in. Sitting within these walls tainted me with the same stain that made other people shudder away from their servants at the market. If anyone saw me leave — if anyone had seen me enter — they would run right to Nikis and tell them. The family’s reputation would burst like a balloon.

Actions have consequences. To purge this sin against family meant something far greater than forcing me to bake bread — barring me from entering the household shrines, or even the unspeakable. I raised my hands to my face and tried to think my way out.

Nothing came. In a hoarse whisper, I asked, “Does Yilrega forgive unconditionally?”

“Yes,” Akarsi said without hesitation. “He forgives everything. You need to sin to come to Yilrega — against yourself, against others. He offers the forgiveness of finally knowing who you are, your place in the world. First, he will cut you open. He will rip sinew from bone and refashion you again in the image of the Gods, and you will be blessed — whole and complete, free from the poison that makes your soul rot from the inside out.”

Sukua stared at me wordlessly.

Sexy Underwater Stories (adult fiction serial)

REVIEWED BY: Marguerite Zelle

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: Sexy Underwater Stories, by Ghost Guns

WEB ADDRESS: http://sexyunderwaterstories.blogspot.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Despite the title, this blog does not consist of short stories, but rather one serial adventure featuring the same main characters.

Amanda, Chelsea and Stacy Sutton, three beautiful young ladies, are freelance scuba divers. "Have scuba gear, will travel." On their travels around the world, singularly and together, they have a variety of adventures, and each gets involved in erotica.

MY REVIEW: If you're a fan of underwater erotica, you'll enjoy this adult serial fiction blog. It's written by the same author of the Erotica by Bravo blog, and has the same premise, the erotica rises naturally out of the events of the story. The characters are believable, you like them, you wish them to succeed in their endeavours, and you enjoy reading their adventures.

It is an adult story, with adult themes and explicit sexual content.

The Adventures of Vulva Fervor (serial fiction)

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: No, inactive

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: The Adventures of Vulva Fervor, by Diane Karagienakos

WEB ADDRESS: http://vulvafervor.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: One part Lara Croft, one part Inspector Clouseau -- style by Yves St. Laurent. The one woman who is out of James "Quantum of Lame" Bond's league.

MY REVIEW: About a month ago, I searched blogs available on Kindle in search of serial fiction - specifically mystery serial fiction. Well, there's not much on offer at the Kindle, most of it is erotic fiction. I thought this blog would be interesting, but it has been inactive for onver a month.

The posts were amusing...doctored photosof a woman "spy" in various locations, with first person narration. Despite the character's name (yes, it's Vulva, not Mulva - that's a Seinfeld reference) the posts aren't actually erotic, more humorous. OF course it's easy to maintain humor when each post is only a couple of paragraphs long...

In any event, a blog that might have been fun but which was allowed to fall by the wayside.

Thanks to idiotic local law enforcement (SFPD AMATEURS!) blowing my cover (and that of my partner, Matti) on a recent top-secret international mission, we’ve been forced deep underground until further notice.

Matti (you may recall he was my adorable captor during that kidnapping incident last spring) finds the whole thing rather amusing. But he’s from Finland, so he’s used to months of darkness on end. But yours truly was just starting to build a decent base tan! And now this crap.

Fortunately, I’ve also built a decent base wine collection, so I imagine the time spent in my custom-designed bunker/wine cellar shouldn’t be too miserable. And even my stupid sister Viva won’t be able to find me here.

Minions at Work (Serial web comic)

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: Great blog, not suitable for Kindle

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: Minions at Wirk, by J. Steven York

WEB ADDRESS: http://www.minionsatwork.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Interchangable, expendable, not too bright. They are the Minions of Evil, and these are their weekly cartoon adventures.

MY REVIEW: I love the sense of humor displayed in this blog. Unfortunately, it isn't suitable for the Kindle. Each entry is a photo of some action figures gathered around a table, fighting with a dinosaur, or what have you, with a humorous caption underneath. Unfortunately, you can't read this caption on the Kindle. Even though you're able to blow up the picture...it renders the caption unreadable.

So check this blog out on the web. I think you'll enjoy it.

Lesbian Zombies Are Taking Over the World (erotic fiction)

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: Yes, with reservations

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: Lesbian Zombies Are Taking Over the World

WEB ADDRESS: http://lesbianzombies.blogspot.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Rachel woke up one day to realize she didn't know who, or WHAT, she was. On the advice of her octopus, she walked south and met Brigitte. Before long, she fell in love, got kidnapped by Reverend Tommy, made love to a Valkyrie, escaped from Hell... and visited Albuquerque?

"Lesbian Zombies Are Taking Over The World!" is a throwback to the great pulp stories of the 30s, 40s and 50s, with an erotic twist. Follow Rachel's adventures as she wanders the 73 dimensions trying to avoid accidentally bringing about Armageddon, and commanding her army of Lesbian Zombie followers as they negotiate a fight between the groups that are trying to replace God with someone else -- a science fiction and fantasy romp with plenty of humor and sex thrown in!

MY REVIEW: I'm not really into gay fiction - lesbian or otherwise, but I've been trying to find blogs available on Kindle that offer serial fiction (since I'm writing such a blog myself, coff, coff) and this is one of the few that I found.

It seems well written, is definitely pulpish, and oh, yeah, there's erotica. Readers are also treated to a photo of two women kissing in each post, if that's a draw. ; )

If you like this kind of fiction, you'll like this blog.

Diary of a Heretic: Pure Fiction (arts & entertainment)

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: Yes

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: Diary of a Heretic: Pure Fiction, by Kathleen Meyer

WEB ADDRESS: http://diaryofaheretic.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Serialized stories about people like you and me, concerned with sex, death, faith, and redemption.

MY REVIEW: This is a blog of serial fiction. The author is telling a love story featuring various characters, and each day a new event happens in their lives. I'm not into love stories .... give me cliff-hanging detective serials any day of the week!.... but people who like these kinds of stories will like this blog.

What danger of subscribing to serial stories is... will the author keep writing it, or leave me hanging? This blog is well-established, so no fear there.

Act Ecstatic
Always before, Matthew was as breezy and easy as the characters he played. His movies were popular because of his physical grace and three facial expressions: genial wit, befuddlement, and flirtatiousness. Conceivably, his first role stood apart. But then for Children’s Minds he had been a total novice; and, a brilliant director, who died years ago, had shown him week after week how to display mythic insight into children’s vulnerability.

Until this summer—until Brooke had changed everything—Matthew might have coasted along on his superficial charm for decades. An impossibility after this exceptional teenager had triggered such rapturous passion in him that he was helpless before her.

[ click here for the first episode, or here for previous one.]

And then, surprising them both, Fletcher had more or less rescued him. The old, alcoholic, Noel Coward-wannabe had taught Matthew to mask and use his terrible and unfamiliar dread, which hinted at incomprehensible depth. Great for the stage, and even to some extent real life, but totally contrary to the James Bond ethos.

Without a clue to the problem, Jeffery admitted that Matthew certainly looked the part. But his apathy was disturbing. Why, for example, wasn’t he infinitely grateful, even ecstatic about the People magazine cover? “Think about how many times I had to get down on my knees to get that, Mr. SMA. Your last hit was five years ago.”

Matthew nodded; he knew that.

“Honey, if you’ve got a problem,” Jeffery said, “let’s fix it.”

Matthew convinced him, or thought he did, to chalk up any enthusiasm deficit to jet-lag and low blood sugar—both gone now. Besides which, had Matthew been anywhere near the spotlight, he would be the consummate James Bond, regardless.

To prove it, he phoned Barbara to confirm their date tonight, purely business; yet Matthew must behave so smitten with her as to be subtly suppressing wild fantasies.

Jeffery had arranged the date through Barbara’s assistant immediately after Matthew had phoned about the silly Hamlet scene.

How fortunate that Barbara happened to be in LA! Matthew was now talking to her assistant (a man named Kyle like his flight attendant.) Together, they marveled at Matthew’s good fortune. Amazing really, that Barbara had decided to postpone several other engagements tonight. Kyle then took Matthew’s already on speed-dial phone number for formality’s sake.

Since it was now nearing cocktail hour, Jeffery ordered a martini and Matthew requested Earl Grey and cookies. As he poured his tea, Barbara telephoned.

Eight o’clock? Perfect. She gave him the address of a private club and hoped he enjoyed ballroom dancing.

“It’s new to me, Barbara, but no doubt with you covering for me, we’ll look great.”

Actually, whenever possible, Matthew took dance lessons of some kind. And ballroom dancing was the most recent. Once again, lucky Matthew.

Jeffrey said, “Feel free to discuss the Hamlet thing with her. It’s a done deal, partly because she so adored walking through Central Park with you.”

“Great—it might save me a meeting. And please, pretty please, Jeffery, can you try to arrange the chemistry-checks for tomorrow afternoon?”

“Those girls are at your beck and call. But you need to stick around, honey, two days minimum. And really, act ecstatic about everything that’s going on.”

When they were finished, Matthew insisted upon putting the bill on his Amex, another formality. Alone in his room, he decided he was already dressed for dinner with Barbara. The day Jeffery didn’t swoon over his appearance, Matthew should count his teeth, but the minute he had entered LAX, he noticed second glances everywhere. And after his paranoid nightmare leaving Kennedy airport, he didn’t doubt his intuition. People magazine would be very happy with him.

His angel Brooke would not. He’d be getting home two days later than he’d promised, and he needed to be with her now—that’s what this was all about. Clearly, despite what he’d told Jeffery, he was in much more trouble than he imagined. He missed Brooke terribly; and it was all he could do to wait until she was likely to answer before calling home. Even though he knew that once she learned he was delayed, she’d only slam down the phone, and refuse to pick up his call-backs.
