Baseball Musings

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: NO

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: Baseball Musings

WEB ADDRESS: www.baseballmusings.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: A blog about major league baseball. Publisher: Baseball Musings

MY REVIEW: I was expecting good things from Baseball Musings. It's a popular seller on the Kindle. The author, David Pinto, has this to say about himself:

In college, I discovered both Strat-O-Matic and Bill James, both helped me think anew about the game. Through the Abstracts, I started scoring games for Project Scoresheet and STATS, Inc. The latter led me to joining STATS in 1990 as their liason to ESPN, where I served for 10 years as the chief researcher for Baseball Tonight.

In 2001, I hosted Baseball Tonight Online for ESPN. When that was not renewed, I joined the blogging revolution and started Baseball Musings. I now blog full time and love every minute of it.

Considering how knowledgeable Mr. Pinto would seem to be, his posts aren't very informational. He's going through baseball players alphabetically, but each entry is only a paragraph long. That's ridiculous. And he's spending time now reporting on the curling in the Olympics (but none of the other events!) and again, it's just a paragraph or so, hardly in-depth coverage.

I've been reviewing, and will be reviewing, blogs of individuals teams. They are the way to go, if you're a fan of only a few specific teams. If you're a fan of baseball in general...well, I can't really recommend Baseball Musings!

Pinstripe Alley (Yankees)

REVIEWED BY: Ms Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES if you're a Yankee fan. Boo hiss if you're not!

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: Pinstripe Alley

WEB ADDRESS: www.pinstripealley.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Pinstripe Alley is your source for the latest Yankees news and game recaps. This blog provides a forum for passionate fans all year round.

MY REVIEW: Okay, I really, really dislike the Yankees (boo, hiss!) but there’s no denying that they’re a great team and they’ve got tons of fans. And those tons of fans will want to subscribe to this blog, just to get all the news about the team in one place. I personally don’t care for bloggers who use words like “suckitude”, but that’s the current generation for ya!

This is another blog hosted on Sportsblog Nation.

Unlike FishStripes (which I also reviewed today), which had only one author, Craig (at least at this time in the year); Pinstripe Alley appears to have several – Travis G., jscape2000, CrazyYankeeChick, and so on.

Some of these blog entries are the kind where you have to click on a link to go to a webpage to see the full story, but so many of them are the full article, so I’ll give that a pass.

THE GOOD: Lots of fans giving their own perspective of the Yankees. Well written, informative. These fans know their stuff.

THE BAD: Well, it is a Yankees blog!

FishStripes (Florida Marlins)

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: FishStripes

WEB ADDRESS: www.fishstripes.com

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Welcome to the SB Nation blog about Florida Marlins.

MY REVIEW: Spring training is going to get underway very soon…indeed, pitchers and catchers are already starting to show up! but of course if you’re a baseball fan, news continues year round. So if you’re a Florida Marlins fan, you’ll want to get in on the action by subscribing to this blog.

The author of this blog is named Craig. I don’t know who that is – Sports Blog Nation is just a main host for all sorts of blogs, just as Blogger is, only SB Nation of course specializes in sports. However, Craig appears to be extremely knowledgeable about the Florida Marlins – his postings cover a wide range of topics on the team, and are well written and informative.

Marlins fans will love this blog.

THE GOOD: Everything. It's informative. The writer knows his stuff.

THE BAD: If you want the view of someone inside the clubhouse, this isn't it. But for fans who keep as close a track on the game as possible, this will serve.
