40 And Bitter With Justine Bateman (humor)

REVIEWED BY: Ann Currie

MY RECOMMENDATION: No, inactive

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: 40 And Bitter With Justine Bateman

WEB ADDRESS: http://www.40andbitter.tv/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Actress Justine Bateman (Family Ties), writing as a fictionalized, bitter version of herself as seen on Illeana Douglas' original comedy Web series Easy to Assemble.

MY REVIEW: "In my 20's, I was self-deprecating. In my 30's, I was ironic. Now I'm 40 and I'm just plain bitter."

This is a blog of well written bitter diatribes. I am not a negative person, but I can related to most of what she is saying in a her long posts. She speaks from an insider's view but doesn't use that. Her posts are clear.

Unfortunately, she doesn't post frequently enough. The last post was January 21, 2010. So, I can't recommend subscribing to this blog. However, feel free to check the archives on the web and enjoy what's there!

Land of Black Gold: Financials and Oil Investment

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: NO, inactive

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: Land of Black Gold

WEB ADDRESS: http://lobg2.blogspot.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Speculations on oil, peak oil theory, energy in general, and the investment implications.

MY REVIEW: No point in bothering with this blog. It was very active in 2005, and the rate of updating dropped every year since then, until today, it hasn't been updated for 4 months. Too bad, it looked interesting.

Momkat:

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES, with reservations

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: Momkat

WEB ADDRESS: www.momkat.net

BLOG DESCRIPTION: MomKat exposes the spirit of error and compromise. She challenges Christian’s to uphold the truth and resist the apostasy of our times. Topics include (with more being added) - Apostasy, Bible Versions, Biblical Exhortations, Calvinism, Charismatic Movement, Christian Rock, Church History, Compromise, Contemplative Mysticism, Cults, Denominations, Doctrine, Ecumenism, Evangelicalism, Evangelism, Emerging Church, Evolution, Encouragement, Family, Fundamentalism, Government, Heresies, Home School, Homosexuality, Israel, Modernism, Modesty, Music, New Age Movement, Paganism, Persecution, Rock Music, Roman Catholicism, Self Esteem, Separation, Sin, Study Helps.

MY REVIEW: Every time I review a blog that has to do with religion (and so far I've only found blogs dealing with sects of the Christian religion) I feel it necessary to point out that I'm not religious. Indeed, truth to tell, after looking around the world as it is today and what it's been in the past, I must say that even if there was a god, I certainly wouldn't worship him. Guy's a loon.

Having said that, MomKat's blog is directed towards those who believe in the King James Version of the Bible, which is her source for her quotations, etc. (And I found it very interesting to learn what the New International Version of the Bible leaves out, to make it palatable! I'm against religion, but I'm also against messing with a religious tome. People should know what it really says, not what its apologists want it to say.) It's also an excellent blog for those who want to know the opinions of such religous folk, even if they are not themselves religious.

She varies her posts between sermons given by pastors, excerpts from books on Christianity, and her own opinions, and certainly seems very familiar with the King James Bible. There's a lot of talk of Satan being responsible for all the woes of the world, and she doesn't like Obama (nor do I, if it comes to that!)

The blog was inactive from December 4th, 2009 until February 27, 2010.

Give Me A Quarter, I'll Tell Your Fortune

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: NO (Inactive as of December 30th, 2009)
*As with all inactive blogs, I'll check them once a month and see if they've been re-started.

If you have any questions Please feel free to email me at ReadingsForLife@Gmail.com I will be more than happy to answer your questions on this blog

MY REVIEW: This looks like it could have been a good blog, but it was updated only a few times for the three months or so of its existence, and has not been updated at all since December 30, 2009.

I'm not much of a believer in palm readers, although I'm aware that there are many of them out there, and indeed, one of my favorite authors, Dorothy Gilman (of the Mrs. Pollifax series) believes in psychics and palm readings. So if you get a good one...presumably she can help.

The author of this blog is an African American woman who, in her few posts, seemed to have some pretty good advice for her clients - and for her readers, so much so that if this was an active blog, I'd be recommending it.

Here's a sample:

I get situations like this all of the time. A woman who hasn't spoken to her boyfriend in over 4 months has the nerve to get angry at me because she's paid for a session and I didn't tell her that her boyfriend would propose in the upcoming year. Yes, that's right. She hasn't spoken to him in a very long time but she's still banking on getting married to this man because he has never said anything otherwise. Now this is where Common Sense is Not So Common in the World.

Candy Snob (hobbies, food - life (chocolate!!!))

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: ACTIVE AGAIN, as of March 26, 2010

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: Candy Snob

WEB ADDRESS: www.candysnob.com

BLOG DESCRIPTION: A site for the candy obsessed - chocolates, gummies, jelly beans, and anything candy related.

MY REVIEW: In the don’t bother category, Candy Snob. It hasn’t been updated since December 12, 2009. I went to the website (http://candysnob.com) and its archives there go back to January 2008, so it was a well established blog. One hopes that nothing untoward has happened to the person running it. Nevertheless, there’s no point in subscribing to it. (I’ll check back periodically to see if its been revived, so you won’t have to! That’s what The Kindle Blog Report is for!)
