Very retro review: Gun Nuts Media

A review from Feb, 2010

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: Gun Nuts Media

WEB ADDRESS:  www.gunnuts.net

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Gun Nuts Media is one of the premier online sources for information on the shooting sports, new guns, gear, events. We also provide up to date coverage of political issues surrounding the right to keep and bear arms.

MY REVIEW: Gun Nuts Media is a blog that is newly available for subscription by Kindle, but has been around on the web since 2006 (at http://gunnuts.net). It’s found in the Sports section (where I found it) and also in News, Politics and Opinion.

The blog is for gun enthusiasts who like to target shoot, in various events, and secondarily about protecting people’s rights to bear arms. They also have a radio program.

The blog entries talk about everything gun related, from the laws about gun ownership to the individuals involved in the sport.

PERSONAL NOTE: I would love to take up target shooting as a hobby... if only ammunition weren’t so expensive! In any event, for those are in to target shooting and collecting guns and so on, this is an excellent blog.

Soldier Systems Daily (industry specific, tactical industry)

REVIEWED BY: Ms. Cairo

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: Soldier Systems Daily

WEB ADDRESS: http://soldiersystems.net/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Soldier Systems Daily is the premier daily web publication covering the tactical industry. Government and Military Acquisition professionals, Industry leaders, and consumers alike rely on Soldier Systems Daily for its up-to-date reporting and in-depth analysis. Soldier Systems Daily doesn't just report Government procurement awards nor parrot press releases from industry. All information is weighed for its added value and paired with historical data to provide unmatched insight into the Soldier Systems Industry. With over 5 Million hits monthly throughout 2009, Soldier Systems Daily reaches the decision makers and consumers that make this such a dynamic industry.

MY REVIEW: There's a lot of testosterone at this blog, as it's all about the weapons industry. A lot of it was over my head...I know a bit about handguns, but this goes way beyond that. I think military enthusiasts will benefit from this blog.

PM Soldier Weapons Issues Sources Sought Notice for Individual Carbine
May 28th, 2010
PM Soldier Weapons has issued a Sources Sought Notice for weapon capabilities to fulfill the Individual Carbine role. As promised, it is not limited to 5.56 mm but any submission must meet international convention standards and they are open to accepting foreign systems. Offerors will need to submit the typical information such as size and weight but there are a few key parameters they are also looking for. For example, there is specific interest in improvements to zero retention and zero repeatability. They are also seeking information on factory capacity and anticipating US based manufacture by year three of production. The response date is 18 June, so they are moving out on this one but it is still a sources sought and failure to respond will not restrict a company from submitting to a full solicitation should it be released. However, the information they receive now gives the program management team an idea of the state of industry and can shape at least to some degree, how the solicitation is written.

To read the entire Sources Sought Notice visit www.fbo.gov.

Thanks to DMR for the heads up.

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: AmmoLand

WEB ADDRESS: Ammoland.com

BLOG DESCRIPTION: AmmoLand has a FREE Shooting Sports News Service that is seen by 1000's of Ammunition, Shooting and Pro Firearms enthusiast

MY REVIEW: Gun enthusiasts will enjoy this blog. They talk about ammunition, of course, but also about all sorts of topics of interest to gun owners. It's a bit impersonal...news, but no personal stories or anything of that nature.

Retro Friday: Gun Nuts Media

When any blog first starts, it takes a while to build up a readership. The Kindle Blog Report (or Blog Review Blog as I wish I'd called it!) has now got a substantial readership, so I thought I'd institute one "retro-post" a day, where I repeat a review from the first months of the blog's existence. (Yes, those reviews are archived, neverthleless now that this forum is larger, I do wish to draw attention to them again.) These retro-posts will only deal with blogs that received a "Yes" review. (Never fear, the ratio of retro-reviews to new reviews will be no more than one out of every five.)
