Kindle Southern Comfort Food Blog (recipes)

REVIEWED BY: Marguerite Zelle

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: Kindle Southern Comfort Food , by Eric Blue LLC

WEB ADDRESS: http://southernfood.about.com [I think]

BLOG DESCRIPTION: This Exclusive Kindle Blog is about food recipes you used to share down on the farm at the “Home Demonstration Club” in most Southern states. You will receive a steady stream of authentic Southern Home Recipes for appetizers, beverages, breads, muffins, rolls, cakes, pies, crusts, cookies, candies, special desserts, dressings, meats, main dishes, pickles, casseroles, vegetables, salads, puddings, soups, and assorted side dishes.

MY REVIEW: This is another one of those blogs that doesn't seem to be an actual blog, but really culls posts from other sources and sends them to your Kindle. Having said that, the recipes look interesting, they're easy and straightforward, so if you're looking to expant your culinary repitoire, check it out.

One Recipe a Day (arts and entertainment)

REVIEWED BY: Marguerite Zelle

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: One Recipe a Day , by Corum Bailey Group

WEB ADDRESS: http://freshrecipe.blogspot.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Delivering a fresh and delicious recipe to you everyday. Featuring tips on meal & event planning, ingredient selections, and international food discovery.

MY REVIEW: Some people take their Kindles everywhere - into the bathtub, onto the beach, into the kitchen. Not me. It stays safe and sound away from water, sand and grease. But, if you're a brave soul, as well as an aspiring chef, you'll want to subscribe to One Recipe a Day. The recipes are easy to follow, and the food is delicious.

For myself, I look to see if there's a recipe I like, and if so I actually go to the site's website to print out the recipe, and use that.

Just one caveat, despite the title, you dont' receive a recipe a day. There were only 14 recipes in August, for example, and 13 in July. There are 5 to date for SEptember.

Amateur Gourmet (Cooking)

REVIEWED BY: Ann Currie

MY RECOMMENDATION: Yes

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION LINK: Amateur Gourmet

WEB ADDRESS: www.amateurgourmet.com

BLOG DESCRIPTION: The Amateur Gourmet is a funny food blog filled with recipes, restaurant reviews, food videos and original songs.

MY REVIEW: This is an entertaining cooking blog that runs the gamut from banana pudding (the real thing with 'nilla wafers) to a visit to a local restaurant to see how sushi is made to "Made up Minestrone". All along with very interesting running commentary. The writing is great.

When recipes are given, the ingredients are listed, the instructions are clear with pictures to help.

It is a great mix of true gourmet, down home food, and amusing anecdotes. Adam doesn't talk down to his readers. In the post about sushi, he doesn't assume one knows everything about sushi, nor does he start at the bottom. You feel like you are there at the bar, experiencing the moment - learning all along. He posts frequently (almost every day).

And anyone from New York who takes on Collard Greens knows his stuff when he quotes the Lee Brothers - a reliable source, and Pimento cheese.

In his post for February 22 (Ten Rules for Food Blogging) I loved No. 5 “Update frequently, at least three times a week.”

This guys brilliant and he cooks!!!

Homecooks (Lifestyles & Culture)

BLOG CHECK 4/27/11

THIS BLOG HASN"T BEEN UPDATED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS

REVIEWED BY: Ann Currie

MY RECOMMENDATION: Yes

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: Home Cooks Online

WEB ADDRESS: http://www.homecooksonline.com

BLOG'S DESCRIPTION: Get answers to the "What's for dinner?" question with these simple but healthy recipes from a group of cooking friends (real people with busy lives) who share what's cooking in their kitchens.

OUR REVIEW: An excellent recipe blog. No fuss, just a quick narrative and description, list of ingredients and straight forward directions.

Previous recipes include Spaghettis Squash Breakfast Loaf, Sausage, Pepper Rigatoni, How to Roast a Thanksgiving Turkey, Tomato Soup, Home made Ice Cream, and Chicken Risotto. If I had one, slight, concern it would be the number of squash recipes posted. Given that there is only one recipe a post, and unfortunately, there is only one maybe two, posts a week you want as much diversity as possible. But everything I saw looked wonderful.

They also reviewed a Pairing knife, a Lodge Logic Wonder Skillet, and Le Creuset cookware.

Foodiemama (Lifestyles & Culture)

REVIEW BY: Ann Currie

OUR RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: Foodiemama

WEB ADDRESS: http://foodiemama.com/

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Teaches you how to save money, streamline ingredients and save time and stress at dinnertime. Dinner becomes a breeze with Foodiemama.

MY REVIEW: A food blog, that lists easy family friendly recipes. Tips and advice are offered and each recipe is tagged with the "Feeding by Age" to help Moms and Dads) chose meals that will appeal to the kids. Each recipe has a short introduction and comment followed by the ingredients and directions which are clearly given. Entries are only posted every 7 or 8 days and 2 recipes are included in each post.

The recipes are ok, but the posts are infrequent. There is nothing unique or entertaining about the text. If you want a good basic Mom friendly food blog this is one of many.

Frugal Village

REVIEWED BY: Ann Currie

MY RECOMMENDATION: YES

AMAZON SUBSCRIPTION PAGE: Frugal Village

WEB ADDRESS:www.frugalvillage.com

BLOG DESCRIPTION: Web site that offers practical, money-saving strategies for everyday living.

OUR REVIEW: Everything is in here including the kitchen sink (I didn’t see it but I’m sure it is in here somewhere). Chocked full of recipes and tips about saving money and making that dollar go further.

Many of the tips are obvious (or were to me) such as check the stores for deals on holiday candy and items the day after the holiday. But the some folks need to be reminded. It has a wealth of information and ideas on recycling – and I’m not talking about in the bins – I’m talking about reusing, everything from that three ring binder to that styrofoam meat tray. A very useful blog and in today’s economy can be well worth your time. Posted to frequently – several times a week.

THE GOOD: Lot's of money savings tips.

THE BAD: N/A.
